Lesedi FM will broadcast from Kroonstad Prison, this in partnership with The Department of Correctional Service in Free State. We will be taking some entertainment and motivation to the women who are in prison. Their biggest challenge is that some of them live with their children as they do not have families to look after them.

‘Naganela Pele: Think Ahead’

The Free State Treasury will host the 2008 National Public Sector Risk Management Symposium on the 3rd and 4th September in Bloemfontein.

Under the theme ‘Naganela Pele: Think Ahead’ the main purpose of the symposium is to capture the skills and expertise of professionals in order to elevate the profile of risk management as a value adding service that supports the achievement of institutional objectives. It also aims to share best practices and to look into current challenges as well as emerging developments and possible interventions.

Topics to be discussed at the symposium include:
• Managing Risk, Establishing Good Governance and Enhancing Compliance
• Impact of Fraud on Public Sector: The Auditor- General Perspective
• DBSA’s Approach to Risk Management for Municipalities
• Service delivery and Making a difference
• Risk Mitigation through Insurance
• Risk Management in the Public Sector
• Enterprise Risk Management in Local Government
• Business intelligence and knowledge Management in the context of Risk Management.

In addition to the National Treasury Director-General, Lesetja Kganyago will deliver a paper entitled Thinking Ahead via Video Broadcast.

Macufe, the 10-day Mangaung African Cultural Festival, showcases the cream of African and international talent. It features jazz, gospel, kwaito, hip-hop, R&B, rock and classical music, as well as dance, drama, cabaret, musical theatre, poetry, fine art and traditional arts and crafts.

First held in 1997 before an audience of 30 000, Macufe now attracts over 140 000 people from South Africa, Africa and the world. The festival is presented anually in late September and early October by Bashomi ba Africa.

A church service will be held at NG Kerk behind Pelonomi hospital. Members and offender choir will attend.

To highlight religion as one of the rehabilitative programmes in Correctional services and to ask the Almighty to lead DCs in during Corrections week.

The region will highlight to it's stakeholders challenges that lead to children to be in conflict with the law, and how the department is giving them a second chance through its various rehabilitative programmes.

Corrections will arrange that offenders who are due for release back into their societies are waited for at the gates of their homes by family members, relatives, victims and community members for welcoming.

Meetings will be held for this exercise among all role players so that the project runs smooth.
