How and when did you fall in love with radio?
I was conducting at one of the National Choir Competition when my manager saw me and Lesedi fm was struggling to get hold of someone who can drive Choral Show by then and I was recruited

I like almost all the genres, but mostly classical

Describe a typical day at work
Check internet and email to see whether there are any newsworthy items. Attend the OAP’s meeting and start with my pre-recordings if there are any that one can do for the day.

Best part of the job
Meeting different prominent people in the country and doing interviews with them about their well being.

Worst aspects of the job
Getting criticised negatively by your superior especially in front of your colleagues, I believe that is demoralizing and you loose self confidence due to that.

Most memorable moment since getting your job?
After realizing how big radio can change life of citizens, some guys I interviewed had an opportunity to get scholarship to go across the country to study music especially Opera.

What do you enjoy about your job most of all?
Getting more informed about what is happening around the world. Meeting my colleagues and talking to the rest of the world.

Qualifications and previous experience that got you the job…
I studied Musicology with Unisa and studied with Musicon, Choral Music Courses also taking part in conducting courses and I worked with different choirs including the one I was conducting when my superior saw me for the first time (Thabong Inter Choir). I did Diploma in Communication.

What personality traits/skills/attributes help a person to get a job like yours?
One need to be talented, be innovative and be creative to bring light, picture to a listener.

Advice for people wanting to get into your industry…
Always try to think ahead of your competitors and try to be creative.
