SABC WILL COVER THE 54th NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE ANC

Date: Dec 18, 2017

54th National Conference of the ANC

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will cover the 54th National Conference of the African National Congress (ANC) which will take place from the 16th to 20th   of December 2017 at Nasrec  Expo Centre in Johannesburg. The SABC will cover the conference through its television, radio and digital platforms.

SABC News will provide rolling and continuous coverage of the conference on SABC 2, its 24 hour news channel on DSTV channel 404, radio stations and through its digital platforms; bringing viewers live coverage of the opening of the conference, press conferences, news updates, the closing of the conference and a one on one interview with the elected president of the ANC. Television and radio studio facility have been set up at Nasrec to provide detailed on-site analysis and commentary from a variety of commentators.

Mr. Kenneth Makatees, SABC Acting Group Executive: News and Current Affairs, says, “SABC News commits itself to factual, fair and reverting coverage that South Africans can enjoy through all our platforms “ as it is the only broadcaster that can access the entire nation and deliver news in all of the country’s official languages.”

Additional coverage will be available on current affairs programmes such as Special Assignment, Leihlo Lasechaba, Ilungelo Lakho, Expressions and Cutting Edge.  All SABC Radio Stations will extensively cover the live aspects of the conference and provide updates for its listeners on all the current affairs slots.

In addition, audiences will get live streams on the SABC Digital News You Tube channel (sabcdigitalnews), Facebook and Twitter (sabcnewsonline) – providing a selection of picture galleries, infographics, live interviews and Q and A sessions with analysts. SABC’s digital platform also features a special report – tracking stories on SABC News, in-depth analysis and opinion as well as a host of multimedia features including candidate profiles, the presidential campaign trails and key newsmakers.

The wage negotiations between CWU and BEMAWU are continuing. The SABC Board and management are committed to resolving the dispute on wage negotiations with organised labour. We are hopeful that this matter will be resolved by Monday. We are therefore confident that we will be ready to provide the best coverage of the ANC conference as per our plan.
